ABOUT the AREA • Greenville is located on the southern
tip of Maine’s Largest Lake, 40 miles long and 20 miles wide at its greatest
width. It is the gateway to the Moosehead Lake Region. Greenville is a quaint
town with many local and specialty retail shops, a hospital, a school, churches,
marina, banks, post office, hardware store, many full service restaurants, gas
stations, two grocery stores, two Laundromats and an indoor mall (Indian Hill).
These places are only a few minutes away. • Wal-Mart and Dunkin Donuts are
over an hours drive away in Newport, Me.
• Located at the doorstep of
Maine’s Great Northwoods, the Moosehead Lake Region is steeped in history. •
Henry David Thoreau explored the region with Indian guides in the
mid-1800’s.
ACTIVITIES • If you can do it in the outdoors, you can do it in
the Moosehead Lake Region. The many rivers, lakes, and streams afford a myriad
of activities, including fishing, canoeing, kayaking and white water rafting.
The mountains are always a hiker’s paradise and the winter trails are a haven
for cross country skiers. Some go dog sledding, downhill skiing on Big Squaw
Mountain while others on snowmobiles take to the Interstate Trail System (ITS)
or race on the frozen lake. • True outdoor adventure awaits you in the
Moosehead and Katahdin regions. Mountain climbing (we have 9 mountains) hiking,
climbing, fly-fishing, recreational boating, ice fishing, hunting and camping.
• Cruise on a historic steamship. Behold the wonder of it all from above on
a seaplane. Enjoy watching the sun set over the seemingly endless horizon of
water at one of several local first class restaurants. • Wildlife safari
tours take you to see some of our local moose and eagles.
